Fred W. Clarke

Fred Clarke co-founded Pelli Clarke & Partners in New Haven, Connecticut with Cesar Pelli in 1977. Since the establishment of the firm, Fred has seen the office grow from a handful of employees to more than 200 staff in five offices. Pelli Clarke & Partners’ work is not governed by a particular style. Their buildings grow from a thoughtful collaboration established with each client and the deep connection a project has to its social, environmental, and economic contexts. As our assignments grow larger, more dense, and complex, Fred strongly believes that architects have a responsibility to consider how society will be impacted by their work. New buildings should be “good citizens” of their communities, taking cues from their surroundings, enhancing their settings, and improving the quality of life of their occupants. Fred is a career-long teacher having been a faculty member of Yale University, Rice University, and the University of California at Los Angeles.
