A. James Tinson

Jim Tinson is Chief Executive Officer and Partner of Hart Howerton, a design firm based in New York and San Francisco that includes planners, architects and landscape architects. Tinson leads a practice that focuses on complex assignments in environmentally and/or historically sensitive locations throughout the world. He has more than 20 years of experience as a designer, planner and strategist and combines an extensive business management background with broad design experience to lead Hart Howerton’s operations. Tinson has worked with such varied clients as The Related Companies, St. Joe Company, Crescent Resources, Revolution Resorts, Rockefeller Group Development Company, Walt Disney Company, and in association with others, Georgetown Development Co., Yale University and the New York Jets.

Tinson received his undergraduate degree in architecture from the University of Notre Dame and a graduate degree in architecture from Yale University. He serves as a critic for advanced studios at the Yale Graduate School of Architecture, leads an Executive Education course on Community Planning for Harvard University’s Graduate School of Design and has been a lecturer and juror at the University of Pennsylvania and Notre Dame. His work has been extensively published and exhibited internationally.
