2024 Webinar Lecture Series
Social Housing in the United Kingdom 1840—1990
January – April 2024
Following two successful webinar series on Palladianism in Britain (2022) and Interwar Architecture in Britain (2023) , BALT’s 2024 webinar series will focus on the development of social housing in the United Kingdom – its origins, success, faltering, and revival over the years from 1840 to 1979.
The series launches with discussions of Pioneer Model Housing in 19th century London, followed by the wide adaptation of social housing at the turn of the 20th century, and elaborate further by tracing its triumphs and failures through the course of the twentieth century. With presentations by Rebecca Preston, Andrew Saint, Simon Pepper and Mark Swenarton, this series promises to be enriching and insightful.
The British Architectural Library Trust (BALT) is an independent American non-profit organization founded in 2013 in support of the Library and Collections of the Royal Institute of British Architects (the RIBA), the foremost architectural library in the world.
