Destination Czechia
June 22 – June 27
Prague is the capital and largest city of the Czech Republic and the historical capital of Bohemia. Situated on the Vltava river, Prague is a major political, cultural and economic hub of Central Europe, with a rich history and stunning examples of Romanesque, Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque architecture. It was the capital of the Kingdom of Bohemia and residence of several Holy Roman Emperors. It was an important city to the Habsburg monarchy and the Austro-Hungarian Empire. The city played major roles in the Bohemian and the Protestant Reformations, the Thirty Years’ War and, in twentieth century history, as the capital of Czechoslovakia between the World Wars and in the post-war Communist era.
The British Architectural Trust (BALT) invites you to discover Prague, a city of extraordinary architectural depth and historic significance. Set along the Vltava River, Prague showcases remarkably preserved Romanesque, Gothic, Renaissance, and Baroque buildings—largely untouched by the modernization that transformed other European capitals. Once the seat of Holy Roman Emperors and a key city in the Austro-Hungarian Empire, Prague reflects centuries of cultural and political change through its built environment. The trip also includes day visits to Brno and Plzeň, where we’ll explore both historic landmarks and modernist icons by architects such as Mies van der Rohe, Adolf Loos, and Jože Plečnik.
